Clarke’s eclectic October auction was strong and steady with many surprises throughout the day.


Charles Calverley. Marble Relief "Little Ida."

A magnificently carved marble relief of an young African-American girl was the top lot of the night selling for an outstanding $38,400. An example of this work hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.


Antique Chinese Cinnabar and Jade Floor Screen

Despite some wear and losses to the jade inserts, this antique Chinese floor screen sold for a surprising $11,40 to a bidder in China.


Paul Evans Midcentury Sculptured Steel Table.

This midcentury modern Paul Evans table sold for more than twice the high end estimate, bringing $19,200 on Sunday afternoon.


Jonah Kinigstein. Oil on Panel "Coney Island Side Show on the Boardwalk"

An intriguing oil by New York painter, Jonah Kinigstein of the Coney Island Boardwalk sold for $3,840, a record auction price for the artist.


18th Century Giltwood Regence Mirror.

Selling for $11,400, this Regence mirror from a Manhattan estate fell right within the presale estimate for $8,000-$12,000.


Vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk.

This Louis Vuitton trunk, in as found condition brought $5,040 on October 21st, well exceeding the expected $1,000-$1,500 estimate.


Southwest American Indian Polychrome Basket.

An American Indian basket, a rare item at Clarke,sold for $3,120 to phone bidder on the West Coast.


Set of 10 Arne Vodder for Sibast Rosewood T-Back Dining Chairs

Bringing $6,600, this rare set of Arne Vodder chairs was one of the many high selling midcentury modern lots in the sale.


Otto Scholderer. Impressionist Oil on Board Beach Scene.

A small unsigned 19th century oil, identified by Clarke Auction staff just days before the sale as a work by German artist, Otto Scholderer, sold for $3,840.
